SCENTS OF AUTUMN

In another time in life, I’d be very happy to be able to stay home during autumn and winter, filling the room with candles and say goodbye to the real world for a while, although right now the best thing I can do is keep poking through the list of movies to see and books to read, as well as reinventing myself and trying to turn my studio into a spa, cinema and restaurant.

🍂 ODE TO AUTUMN 🍁

Autumn seems perfect to me because you don’t freeze and your favorite light sweater is enough to withstand the cold, you don’t need to look for your thermal clothes and your skin doesn’t get as dry as in December or January.

Of course, I have noticed that my list of favorite objects for both cold and heat, includes non-perishable things (such as creams, flowers and candles), which may seem like a silly expense but we have already talked about money and priorities in THIS post.

– The candles: I do not have a favorite, there are too many options to try. Although I just received Diptyque Tubereuse and its warm and intense notes (orange blossom and coconut) are perfect to vanish any other unpleasant smell. It is the perfect ally for any ritual in which you have to turn your house into a garden covered in dry leaves. On the other hand, Cotton Poplin by Byredo pays tribute to cotton and clean fabrics with notes of chamomile, cedar and musk … it is comforting, especially in these moments where home means being in a safe place.

I must confess that I have not experienced much when it comes to body care products. So I decided to change my basic Neutrogena cream (recommended for being repairing, long-lasting and cheap) for a slightly more luxurious option, taking advantage of Cult Beauty discounts. Le Labo products are a small comfort when there is extra pay, this cream has a heavy texture and a scent powerful and spacious enough to replace perfume. The best ally for dryness in autumn, especially in the elbows.

My search for the perfect repairing lip balm may be over. This honey and propolis Nuxe option instantly nourishes and relieves one of the worst discomforts of cold seasons.

The buzz on certain beauty products has me tempted and I won’t be in peace until I can try them and give a verdict for myself. I had heard the best comments about this deodorant without aluminum and alcohol, and although the price was putting me back, I finally decided to try it and I can say that I am not going to change it and it is already part of my altar of consecrated products. The best? Its aroma of eucalyptus but very soft and the duration (I have been with it for three months and I hardly notice any weathering).

PS: También lo utilizo en algunos días de verano./ – Tam Dao de Diptyque: I was not a fan of woody perfumes (most of them were very strong or gave me a headache), until I discovered the Tam Dao by Diptyque, which is an ode to wood: it smells like a forest in the depths of Japan or an infinite temple, but a much more velvety and subtle aroma. Sandalwood, cedar and cypress in a unisex perfume that is perfect for autumn, it leaves a trail on the coats of the season. PS: I also use it on some summer days.

Few hand creams are as repairing and comforting as this option with shea and a very mild aroma of white flowers. It is an independent brand, which also matters.

  • Scents of Autumn…it is hard to pick a favourite. I don’t use fragrance candles, at least not at the moment, I’m just lighting ordinary ones. I like candles and how they make a place feel cozy.
Like yourself, I’m a fan of Autumn. It is a beautiful and inspiring season. The nature is so beautiful and inspirational this time of year. I love collecting dry leaves and always feel inspired to do and create things. Great to hear about the products you’re using. My hands are also often dry due to constant washing. That deodorant also sounds great. I switched to healthy deodorants some time ago. Better not to take chances, right? Tam Dao sounds like a great woody perfume btw.

    • Hello dear Ivana,

Even ordinary candles are perfect to create a cozy space in these crazy times, my favorite thing to do is to wrap in a blanket, light a candle and flip through the pages of a book 🙂

Dry leaves are also a must for decorating our houses in these days!

    • hey Tiziana, thank you so much for stopping by!

that’s a good one too! yesterday I had pumpkin soup for eating and it was great!

  • Mmmmm…, I love the scents of orange blossoms and coconut! It’s so nice when you find products that lift your mood and make your skin happy. It’s tricky with scented products, because as you pointed out, some can cause headaches. I’m glad you found so many winners!

    • Hi Michelle!

Orange blossoms are so good, favorite smell of spring too!

I know, it is a tricky thing to discover…. same with perfumes!

  • Hey Pablo, how are you? Hope that right now you are fully recovered from your bad experience with Covid.
But reading this post seems that at least your mood is pretty good!

About autumn: really is not my fav season (that are spring and summer to me) but I cannot even say that I dislike it, at least as long the weather is not too cold. Basically i love to spend time outside and I hate cold, so as long as I can do it, it’s ok for me!^^
Said that, it’s not that I don’t love to enjoy some times at home chilling with scentend candles, books, Netflix and plants: and over all I love to transform my home in a spa from time to time (tecnique that I perfected during the lockdown), it’s sooo relaxing and regenerating!
You gave me many ideas about beauty products to try for the next months: firstly those lipbalm and handcream! Sound great!

Scentend candles are (another) my guilty pleasure: I use them all year long! In summer my fav scents are more on the coconut and lemon side, while in cold season I prefer vanilla and lavender scents. My faves are the Yankee Candles, not very cheap but you can literally smell the quality!

Wishing you a magical week, my friend!
    Take care and stay safe,

    • Hello Silvia, I

I’m feeling better know! Thank you so much for your good vibes and for always checking up 🙂

Haha I totally get your mood, same happens with me about summer…. not my favorite season, but I don’t hate it since there are many things I like about that specific time of the year 🙂

Let me know if you try the lipbalm (you can find this brand at the pharmacy and the price is not too high since the product lasts a lot). I remember Yankee Candles, but they are kinda difficult to find there… the vanilla one is so good!

      xx

  • Oh I always heard good about Diptyque candles. I really wanted a pumpkin kind of smell to completely get in the autumn fall but I didn’t find what I was looking for.
    Maybe next year. 🙂
And like you know I’m all about getting festive at home right now. Even if everything’s closed we can still make it fun at home with a good book or a good movie to be festive right ?
By way this lip balm sounds amazing.
    xx

    • hey Margot, thank you for visiting 🙂

Diptyque candles and perfumes are so good…. kinda expensive but they last a lot compared to other candles, you can try the Vainille one if you’re looking for an autumn essence.

Let me know if you try the lipbalm, maybe you can catch one when you visit France, I hope soon 🙂

  • Fall is my favorite season, so I’m all for scented candles, fall scented balms and soaps! I love Burt’s bees for my lips, they’re really keeping them moisturized and I love Nuxe cleaning gel for the body and face. The texture is divine. I definitely want to get some more scented candles, with corona making a big comeback, there’s nothing like staying home and cozy with candles, Netflix and good food! Hope you’re having a great week Pablo! Xx

    • Hey Mia!

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your favorites with me! I like Burt’s Bees too but the brand is kinda dificult to find in Spain. But definitely checking upon those Nuxe recommendations! 😉

  • Hey Fungi,

Love skincare during this time of year and don’t like the feeling of dry skin so I go through more than a few lotions. Even during autumn, I love floral scents the most. I wear/use them all year-round.

Hope you’re having a great day.

    • Hey Radi,

Exactly! A crucial time of the year to have the necessary things to fight against dryness.

      Keep safe!❤️

  • They sound like lovely scents! I like to use scented candles year-round and I’m finding that they are getting used a lot more now that I’m working from home. I really enjoy them in summer oddly – because it’s too hot to have the doors and windows open so we have the airocn on and it’s nice to know the candle won’t blow out as there’s no breeze coming through the house, haha! 🙂 Sweet scents and food scents like vanilla or caramel are my faves, year-round! 🙂

Hope that you are having a lovely weekend 🙂

    • Hello Mica,

Thanks for stopping by! Since I started to work as a freelancer, essences and candles are an essential in my home, specially in times where some essences help to get relaxed 🙂

Vanilla is such a good one! Probably my favorite since it reminds me of my childhood days 🙂

  • Beautiful selections here, Pablo!

I also love spring and fall, especially the latter since (as you have mentioned) the weather is just so perfect and I love fall fashion (boots, scarfs, blazers, jackets – yes to all of that!).

It is funny that we both like and use the same deodorant, but it really is amazing. I like that it is clear and does not smudge on clothes (I wear a lot of black, so hey!). I now use Native, which is also great (safe, aluminum free formulas) but it can leave white marks on clothes, so you have to be super careful with it. They offer so many scents to choose from!

For body, if you want something quite nourishing for winter time, I would recommend body lotions by La Roche Posay. They are magical!

Hope you are doing great, Pablo xx

    • Hi dear Naya, thank you so much for always stopping by to share your experiences with me 🙂

As you I am the happiest when it comes to take out the jackets and the coats.

Oooh it is so curious that we use the same deodorant yes! I’ll look up for the option you shared with me… first time using a clean deodorant and I’d say the difference is huge 🙂

    Paz

  • Hey Fungi! I hope you are having a relaxing day:)
Thank you for sharing those great review about scents! I didn’t know well about those brand except for Diptyque. I have seen Le Labo products, and the product design is so beautiful. I would love to try it.
Tam Dao looks so happy with you! Whenever I saw Tam Dao at Diptyque shop in Tokyo, it reminds me of you:) I agree it is like a forest in Japan<3
