If life knocks at your door with a weekend with no plans and a round trip ticket to Milan for 30 euros, there is not much to think about. Some clothes, an umbrella and an empty stomach ready to eat industrial quantities of pasta and risotto are the only things I needed to flee to this city in northern Italy.
🇮🇹 SPEND A MEMORABLE DAY IN MILAN! 👋🏽
But I’ll be honest, Milan is not the place you should go if your goal is to discover the pictorial Italy of Call Me By Your Name or Roman Holiday, rather it is a city with a grey color palette that exteriorizes its charm in other ways that also deserve to be explored. Milan doesn’t have the wonders of Rome or the artistic exercises of Florence, but it manages to provide an inexhaustible visual inspiration, which you will enjoy especially if you are into fashion and design.
9:00 AM UN CAFFÈ PER FAVORE! ☕
Nosotros visitamos Panini Durini cerca de la zona Quadrilatero della moda, y después aprovechamos para hacer window shopping./ The best thing to start the day in Milan is a breakfast where coffee is the main protagonist. We visited Panini Durini near Quadrilatero della moda, and later we had the chance to do some window shopping in the area.
11:00 AM THE MAIN ATTRACTIONS 📸
Justo enfrente la Galería Vittorio Emanuele II te espera con un espacio lleno de detalles y escaparates que incitan a sacrificar la tarjeta de crédito./ I could say that Milan Cathedral is on my list of the most impressive buildings I’ve ever seen, it is the most important tourist spot in Milan and it is the fifth largest cathedral in the world. Just cross the street and you’ll find Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II , a space full of details and window shopping that will encourage you to sacrifice your credit card.
14:00 PM BUON APPETITO! 🍕
Barriga llena, corazón contento./ We picked a random trattoria to protect us from the rain and the result was a culinary experience that fuels my desire to move to Milan using its gastronomy as a pretext. After that, a walk through Navigli area to speed up the digestion. Full belly, happy heart.
16:00 PM FONDAZIONE PRADA 🏫
Indispensable y diría, lo que más disfruté del viaje./ Milan has many ways to show you art and design but we had so little time, but the plan that convinced us most was to cross the city in a yellow tram to visit Fondazione Prada and it was an experience that I would repeat: both for the venue and for the exhibitions. I would say, this was the part I enjoyed the most in my trip.
18:30 WES ANDERSON PRESENTS:
At the beginning of the post I mentioned that Milan is a good destination for design lovers, and if you are also a fan of Wes Anderson movies, here’s a dream come true. Bar Luce inside Fondazione Prada is a cafeteria designed by the North American director, a mandatory stop to feel a protagonist of any of his films.
AND BEFORE THE AIRPORT…
Experiencia que me dice de nuevo: Pablo, múdate a Italia./ I ran against the clock to have some gelato at Cioccolatitaliani despite the cold. One more experience that tells me: Pablo, you should move to Milan.
The Italian gelato is the best isn’t it….I can understand why you would want to move to Milan just because of it. I’ve actually never been to Milan. I’ve only been to Milan’s airport and if I remember well this airport had a lot of gigantic fashion billboard which I thought appropriate since Milan is one of the centers of fashion industry.
I really enjoyed reading your Milan travel log. Good that you managed to find a nice place to eat…and you visited great places. I imagine that Prada foundation is a nice place to visit. If I ever manage to visit Milan, I’ll go straight to Prada Fondazione. I’m sure it was interesting and I can see why it was your favourite stop. Bar Luce seems like a great place to hang out:).
It seems that you managed to enjoy Milan in a short span of time! Good that you didn’t let the weather stop you. Perhaps it is better to discover a city during the colder seasons or bad weather- less tourists that way. Great photos and I always enjoy your collage art!
Hey Ivana! Thanks for your feedback!
And yes, fashion is an important part of Milan life and you can see it almost everywhere and I would say this is one of the best cities to live if you’re really into fashion, design and art 😉
Hope you can visit this city soon! I’m sure you will like it especially for the museums 😉
Great tips !
I really want to see all of theses museums and monuments now.
You definitely make me want to visit Milan before to leave Sicily.
xx,
Margot

You definitely need to go! Very different if you compare it with Sicily but worth visiting 😉
I’ve been in Italy a few times but never in Milan actually! Sounds so lovely though with a 24 hour stop and with that price and everything, it’s a total go! Well I obviously love design and fashion so from that point of view I know I’d love the city. So cool with the Wes Anderson café too, I can imagine that it’s quite cinematic huh? ! Will definitely bring up this guide when I’m in Milan, perfect way to get a quick feeling of the city. Have a lovely week Pablo! Xx

Hey Mia, you need to go, it is one of the best places to see and consume fashion 🙂
The Wes Anderson café inside Fondazione is like being in one of his movies!
Oh this looks so nice. I love your photos and layouts. Your trip looks like it was great fun and that coffee looks soooo good! I so want to travel more but as I was laid off and not working it is going to be a while : ( in the mean time I can live through you and your blog!

Thanks for the nice comment, Allie! Wish I could travel more often too, I’ll try to do it so you can see more travel blog posts on Hey Fungi :p
Hi Fungi! How’s it going?
Reading your awesome travel experience you’re making me want to move to Milan. I’m sure everyone who reads this post will feel the same way. I love that you got to do so much in so little time. Coffee, gelato and walking the streets is always a must. So cool that you got to visit the Fondazione Prada as well.
Thanks for sharing your adventurous travels. They’re always a joy to read.
Hope you’re having an amazing week!

Everything is going well, Radi!
Let’s move to Milan together, there are many places where you can enjoy a cup of coffee (or gelato) while admiring people’s style ❤️
Me encantó!!!
Milan is a great place for design & art enthusiasts, sound like you had a great time. We spent a day in Milan two years ago for New Years which was a lot of fun and I loved the sight of the cathedral – it is so beautiful ♡. Have a lovely Easter weekend, Pablo!
Hello Miriam,
I do agree with you, if you’re interest in art this is a good city to spend your hours, but London is also in my list when it comes to museums!
I want to visit Europe so bad! I still have never been!

What a fantastic Milan!!
I haven’t been there and I would love to visit.
It is first time that I saw such an interesting trip!
Bar Luce inside Fondazione Prada looks so great, and I just checked the gallery website.
I’m very interested in it.
And I enjoyed twice because I have seen some pictures on your instagram!!
akiko
Ahhhh what a beautiful place full of art and PASTA!
I’m afraid that once I’ll set foot in Italy, I won’t come back in the Philippines because the place is too good to be left behind and store in memory. Great shots Pablo. Super love the photos Pablo! I hope you enjoyed your gelato <3
love lots,
Tin
