SNAPCHAT AND OUR 15 MINUTES OF FAME

Some people can enjoy it for a longer period than other. Some people just want to get there quickly. Some people want to take their time to reach it. Anyway, fame, like an orgasm, is short and it tends to end. The real struggle is to maintain it. As my grandmother says “the difficulty is not to arrive, but to stay”.

The fame monster takes many forms, his most recent disguise: Snapchat. Fashion bloggers are in a constant changing process where adaptation is crucial: they jumped from Blogger and WordPress to Instagram and then to Snapchat. The reason? To expand how they share their lives with strangers. Let’s be honest, contemporary bloggers shares many aspects of their personal lives: their travels, their appartments, their gym routines, etc. But Snapchat? Although it was an app created for sexual purposes (sexting), bloggers have started with the appropriation, this is now a part of their toolkit, an instrument of “everything that is needed to be a fashionista”.

With this app, bloggers are not only sharing trivial stuff (like their ultimate Chanel bag), they are also putting in the media their personal lives: being at home watching movies, cooking, being with the family, etc. The purpose is implicit: “Follow me, bloggers are also human, just like you”.

Anhelando con ansias el sentido de gratificación que tanto esperan recibir, porque se esfuerzan por tenerlo, a través de una foto, los aplausos, los hashtag y los likes que son sinónimos de idolatría./ Sometimes we forget about the person behind a Dior coat and is unimaginable to think that someone like a blogger have the ability to poop and actually they do (maybe poop smelling like Saint Laurent fragrance). Trying to be empathetic by sharing things of daily life is the new way in which fashion blogger humanizes themselves. Longing forward to the sense of gratification, through a picture: with an applause, a hashtag or a like, our contemporary synonymous of idolatry.

Todo el mundo debería tener derecho a quince minutos de gloria”./ As Andy Warhol said: “In the future everyone will be famous for fifteen minutes”

  • Wow!!! You should have been a writer my dear, you write so perfectly and you are able to make sense while still being humorous. I agree that fame is like an orgasm in that it feels so good but lasts for a little while and one has to keep on doing something exciting to achieve it. Am not on snapchat but that is what we are doing as bloggers because we think that fame is key to our success instead of thinking that our work will sell itself, I joined IG,FB and twitter last year when I started my blog and I am still n not a huge fan of social media but because of my website I have to be there. I don't wanna join snapcat though.

    • Hi Meron! Thanks for your comment, dear! I usually write most of the articles but this is from my friend and contributor to the blog Iván (@itsivansolis) he's really talented, don't you think?

Now, talking about social media tools I think the same as you! I joined Facebook because of the blog, but Snapchat is not working a lot for me according to the themes I want to share on the blog! There's a tool for every topic 🙂

      Kisses from BCN!

A mí no me interesa. Sólo sigo cuentas que me inspiran y a gente que me aporta.
Me da mucha alegría este reencuentro.
Te deje mensaje tb en mi blog.
    Ahora doble conexión, jajjajaj
