THE SEPTEMBER ISSUE

The spirit of summer promised fleeting but intense loves and afternoons at the pool seasoned by musical radio hits… by the way did we have a summer song this year? As the answer for me was NO, I had to play 80s hits, a decade that I did not even experience but that fill me with nostalgia.

SEPTEMBER 📅= REALITY ⏰

For many people, September is a fearsome call to reality, even the song “Wake me up when September ends” ended up becoming a meme to deny this feeling. I will also miss terraces, beers and long afternoons, but for me September also represents a kind of “new year” where I can come back with renewed energy and an agenda with good plans that have the ability to make everything more bearable:

✈️ A NEW TRIP ✈️
I finish a trip, my head is already thinking about the next one, and even though my bank account is asking for help right now, the possibility of a new trip always motivates me. It doesn’t matter if it’s the next big summer getaway, a train trip or even a visit to a corner of my own city that I didn’t know.

📒UPDATE YOUR CULTURAL AGENDA 📒
Some of the things that help me to avoid the reality of being an adult are books and movies. Update your list of movies to watch on Netflix and your reading challenge, from books to some fashion and design magazines like the ones i mention in THIS POST.

TIP: GoodReads me ha ayudado mucho para hacer del 2018 el año donde he recuperado un hábito que creía perdido, en 2017 no leí ni las especiales del súper./ GoodRead has helped me a lot to make 2018 the year where I recovered a habit I thought was lost, I did not even read the specials of the supermarket back in 2017.

🌱PIMP YOUR SPACE 🌱
Maybe there is not enough money to buy a new Danish design furniture or to alter our studio, but getting one of the plants I’ve illustrated in THIS POST is always a good option to pimp your space.

💐 SMALL TREATS + GOOD HABITS 💐
No hablo de dietas imposibles, pero si de pequeños detalles como mantener ordenada la agenda o comprar más frutas para ponerme la medalla de adulto responsable de vez en cuando… ah y sí, comprar uno que otro capricho también endulza la rutina./ September is my true new year and maybe the fact of having taken long holidays in August makes me believe this (in Spain many places close during summer and I suppose that helps to perpetuate the state of relaxation), so when I go back to work I always try to practice a small change that makes me feel good. I’m not talking about impossible diets, but small details such as keeping my agenda tidy or buying more fruit to be healthier are good reasons to feel like a responsible adult… oh and yes, treating ourselves with a little gift also sweetens the routine.

  • Hola Pablo! How are you? I hope that you’re well, glad to see that you’re back 🙂 Personally, right after I graduated from high school and started studying, I really liked September – it’s amazing month, when evening are maybe not so warm as in the summer, but quite chilly so you can pull of your blanket and spend great evening with Netflix or good book. What’s more, I love to explore how nature is changing each day – in September there is no better option than to go to forest for walk to see colorful leafes. Moreover, I totally agree with you – in my opinion this summer didn’t have any song, which could be called as “song of the summer” – btw, I also love 80’s hits, despite the fact I’m 90’s kid 🙂
    Have a great evening, dear!

  • First of all, the illustrations to this post are so so chic (as always!). And yes, september is like my new year too. Such a great opportunity to start with new routines, healthy habits and just finding a balance of work and private life. I’m definitely gonna take your advice and redecorate a bit at home, I know I could need another plant or two and also a nice scented candle. I did a fun day trip the other day to a nearby castle and I’m looking forward to do more of that in September. Hope you’ve had a lovely start to the new month Pablo! Xx

    • Hey Mia, thank you so much for your lovely comment! Yes, I’d rather say that September means much for me in comparison to January 1st… and it is also the beginning of fashion month ;)!

Let me know if these tips work for you!

  • Hahaha you know, I just listened to the song Wake Me Up When September Ends rn. Can’t relate with the September summer in Europe but I always love the idea of new beginnings. 🙂
Love the art and the ideas in this post Pablo! Can’t wait to read more of your life’s adventures. There’s got to be so much more to come ✨

    Love lots,
    Tin

  • Qué alegría volverte a leer.

    Muchos abrazos.

    Paz

  • Hey Fungi,

Your thinking about September is so beautiful!
‘September is a kind of new year’ is great for me, too!
    My birthday is September 🙂
I didn’t know that song of Green Day, and it is a beautiful and a little sad song…
However your illustration of a beach is so lovely, and pothos is always fine!!
Now I am growing my plant from cuttings!

    Have a lovely week!
