PRE-INTERNET BRAIN

¿Ustedes también extrañan su cerebro pre-internet?/ Once upon a time, there was a dystopian world with futuristic flashes where Metroflog was the best and an album with a maximum of 16 photos on MySpace was  already too much, but everything changed… Do you also miss your pre-internet brain?

                ❤️ TO MY PRE-INTERNET BRAIN: ❤️

I will confess that lately I have felt overwhelmed by the amount of information to which we are subject, with constant notifications that do nothing but encourage the phantom vibration syndrome in my pocket when (miraculously) I’m away of my phone. And don’t get me wrong, I love sharing content and opinions while meeting people from all over the world (some of my actual friends started as cyber friends by the way), but I feel that Instagram, Twitter and other apps have been stealing me too much time, even if I insist on thinking otherwise and sometimes I kinda miss my pre-internet brain.

One more example and as you may know, unless you’re coming back from North Korea, last week Stranger Things 2 premiered, but my desire to watch the show was crushed by the incessant amount of spoilers that people were determined to share just a few hours after the series was released, making me miss my pre internet brain.

And no, I don’t want to stop sharing content and I won’t, but I want to encourage you to be a better content curator in a world where the constant bombardment threatens to reduce our attention and amazement capacity: go and follow people who inspire you or bloggers who are willing to share more than a make up giveaway, follow accounts that really make you laugh or brands that promote creativity beyond the screens of your phone, go and read blogs and online magazines that look for something more than a clickbait and every once in a while search for inspiration without connection. But above all, be aware of the value of your time 😉

  • Hahaha no kidding. Sometimes it really concerns me how much time I spend online and going to let you in on a little secret. I hate social media, IG, FB bah! Tired of all the faking, and fake news and all the fake followers etc. Just kind of over it.

  • Haha this is such an interesting read. Even though I basically live off of social media for my job, the other side of me kind of dislikes it as well. I definitely need to give myself time to unplug from social media. I feel like it can be sensory overload since there’s just so much content and information out there that you’re right, you should be selective with who you choose to follow. To living an authentic life.

  • Hola Pablo! To be honest, I understand you – personally sometimes I’ve the very same feeling – I’m overwhelmed by amount of informations and I feel something like nostalgia – I’ve started to miss the times, when even if you had Internet at home, you don’t feel like you were online all of the times. What’s more, I agree with you – nowadays we have to be more selective when it comes to contents, which we choose on the Internet.

    • I feel you, Ivonne! Sometimes I try to leave my phone on purpose at home in order to feel a little bit of freedom, I recommend you to schedule a monthly digital detox, one weekend per month at least, promise it helps to feel better! 🙂

  • Definitely, miss my pre-internet brain and try to stay off social media every now and then to focus on real life. It is easy to spend too much time online and I completely agree with you about the importance to carefully select the blogs & content we read!

    • I agree! Last month I went to Paris and Prague and I made a promise: to not check Facebook, Instagram or twitter during the trip! First day was scary as f*ck but then it was easy peasy, haha!

  • Hey Fungi!

Woahhh this post really got me thinking just how many hours we spend in front of a screen. It really can get tiring and become too much if you don’t take any breaks to enjoy doing something else like an outdoor activity.
Like you said, it’s great when you find inspiration online, something that will uplift you, so it doesn’t feel like you’re wasting your time.

See you in the next post. Have a fun day!
