GREY HAIR DYE

¿Listos para un cuento de terror disfrazado de glamour?/ They say that beauty is pain and I corroborated the truthfulness of that phrase when I decided to dye my hair grey. Are you ready for a horror story disguised as glamour?

🤔 READY TO GO GREY? 🤔

My desire to have a grey platinum hair just as a character of Game of Thrones chased me for months, I never disliked my natural hair but it was something I definitely wanted to try, and after a research to challenge the genetics of my jet black hair I decided to take the risk and buy a bunch of bleach boxes. After all, if bloggers like @thehautepursuit, @beigerenegade or Brock from @yummertime could do it, why not me? Many people have asked me about pros, cons and tips to get a mermaid look worthy of a Pinterest board, here 4 things to know about grey dyed hair:

1. EL PRESUPUESTO / THE BUDGET:

Es un cuento de nunca acabar y si estás un poco gastado es mejor postergar esta transformación mítica./ To look like a millennial version of Cruella De Vil is kinda expensive, not only in the initial phase but also while trying to maintain the color, no matter if you’re picking a fancy beauty salon or if you decide to do it at home. It is a never ending story so if you’re broke it is better to postpone this mythical transformation.

2. ¡FUEGO! / LET IT BURN!

If your hair is dark, get ready to cross the closest thing to a lake of fire in hell. The process of discoloration will take time and in almost two months I went from black to bronze, from bronze to blond and from blond to very light blond before the grey color. Some tips that worked for me were waiting 2 to 3 weeks between each discoloration, not washing my hair for a few days before applying the bleach or spreading a little bit of coconut oil; but no matter what you do, it will hurt!

3. MANTENER EL COLOR / KEEP THE COLOR

If you do not have a pet, be mindful because having hair dyed in fantasy colors is something very similar to feeding a cat but in your head: from the root touchups to the tricks to avoid yellow tones and preserver colors for more weeks. The best allies? The L’Oréal Elvive masks for dry hair, dry shampoo and the color toners in dyer or shampoo (you can also go for the grandmother shampoo that works like a charm).

I have tried a few brands and the one that have worked best for me is Herman’s Amazing (100% vegan), although Manic Panic is also a good option.

4. CH-CH-CHANGES

Is it worth so much expense and sacrifice? This is actually a very personal decision but I must say that grey hair or light blond looks VERY GOOD, both in pictures and with a lot of clothes. At the end of the day, hair is another form of expression that deserves to be explored and I have never been afraid of doing different things because after all hair is something that grows and if you do not like a change you can always go back. For me it is my own accessory, one that admits many possibilities.

Just as there are people who enjoy buying each technological gadget, or others who spend hours perfecting their complexion or beauty junkies who love to try all kinds of makeup. This is just another way of finding beauty or a style commitment… Have you ever dyed your hair with fantasy colors? What is that beauty commitment that you love?

  • Hey Fungi!

Props to you for going through all that to achieve grey hair. You totally pull it off and I agree looks awesome with anything you wear.

I’ve never dyed my hair and want to keep it as natural as possible. Having all different shades of colors on your hair is so big right now. It definitely makes me wonder what it would look like on me.

Hope you have a lovely weekend. Thank you for your friendship and support.

    • Thanks for your comment, Radi!

There is never late to try something different, I mean, you don’t need to dye your hair in order to try a new look, actually a simple cut could make a whole difference so let me know if you decide to try something new soon 😉

  • Me encanta cómo te quedó!

  • I’ve never changed the color of my hair and I’m pretty sure I never will, haha I’m quite happy with it. With that said though I love people who dare to go bold. Especially grey is such a cool color to embrace and I think the result looks lovely. Been so much fun with the beauty world the past years when people have dared to try so many crazy hair colors! Have a lovely week, Xx

    • Thanks a lot for your kind comment!

And totally agree with you, maybe this is not for everybody (as clothes, as sports, as beauty treatments) but there are many ways to express ourselves, the important is to always try something new in order to keep creative!

Have a very happy new year!

Me encanta tu nuevo look, so cool!! Besitos

  • Hola Pablo! I’ve never dyed my hair with fantasy color and to be honest, I’ve never thought of it,according to my point of views, going blond in my situation would be a big revolution on my head (I’ve been thinking about it few times and so). What about grey I had no idea that this is such long and painful process, but the result is totally worth – you look amazing and in my opinion this color is really elegant and so versatile that you won’t have any problems with selecting colors of your clothes (especially with grey with cobalt makes perfecr combo).
    Have a lovely evening, Pablo!

    • Hahaha love the quote “a big revolution on my head” You should try one day, I bet you would look amazing so go ahead whenever you feel brave enough 😉

  • You look great with grey hair! I wanted to try grey hair ever since it became fashionable, but I’ve chicken out every time. I’m aware that it is a long process and when one has natural dark hair it is even more challenging. When one has a Mediterranean complexion, I think that grey is the only way to go blondish/very light and look good. Anything with a yellow tone doesn’t look good on our olive skin tone, that’s just a fact.

My skin is a bit lighter these days then it used to be when I was younger (because adult life means no beach days) so I’ve decided to try something lighter (but not a typical blond/honey). I actually bought bronze hair dye today and I can’t wait to try it out. I’m not sure will I keep it, because I think my natural dark hair is a better match for my complexion, but I’m kind of looking forward to freaking out my husband a little. He only likes dark hair but he said he didn’t mind if I try something new. We’ll see. Anyway what is the worst thing that can happen? I can end up not liking the colour and dye it back dark. Big deal. I don’t dye my hair regularly, I do it on average once or twice a year, mostly because I like my natural hair colour. Right now I have a bit of natural ombre going on and I think it looks pretty cute but becoming orange will definitely be interesting.

p.s thank you for your comments, they mean a lot:).

  • oh my! you are looking so dapper on your new hair Pablo!
I’m always a fan of your style. Love the grey hair so much. It suits you so well.
    Happy New year dear!

    love lots,
    Tin
